Women’s Tackle Football Playoff Game at Dilboy Stadium this Saturday 6/27

BOSTON – Friday, June 26, 2015 – The Boston Renegades will host a divisional playoff game against the West Michigan Mayhem on Saturday, June 27 at Dilboy Stadium in Somerville, Mass. Admission is $10, children 6 and under are admitted for free. Somerville residents with student IDs admitted for $5. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 pm.

Saturday’s matchup marks the first time any Boston Women’s Football team has faced the Mayhem. Despite playing in the same conference of the now-defunct National Women’s Football Association (NWFA) for six seasons (2002-2007), Renegades’ progenitor the Massachusetts Mutiny never squared off against West Michigan in the regular season or the postseason, even though both teams were perennial playoff contenders.

The clubs now play in the Women’s Football Alliance (WFA), the premier league for women’s gridiron football in the United States. Boston (3-2) is the defending champion and this season ranks second in the league. West Michigan (6-2) ranks tenth and were WFA national title contenders in 2009. They will be making their third consecutive playoff appearance. WFA rankings are determined by Massey Ratings.

The Mayhem’s strength this season has been its defense, which recorded three shutout victories while allowing 17.5 points per game. The unit is led by veteran linebacker Jennifer Plummer who leads the league with 105 tackles. Another All-American linebacker, Ashley Andrews, has compiled 76 tackles, 3 sacks, and 7 takeaways with two touchdowns this season. All-American safeties Leanne Tuuk and Misty Seward anchor the Mayhem’s secondary.

On offense, West Michigan is a run-first team with two All-American ball carriers topping 500 yards this season. Fullback Heather Anderson has gained 655 rushing yards with 6 touchdowns, while running back Chantal ‘Telly’ Robinson, has gained 502 rushing yards with 6 touchdowns. They are also the team’s leading receivers. The Mayhem averages 213 rushing yards and 23.5 points per game.

The Boston Renegades’ regular season was highlighted by key victories over fifth-ranked Chicago Force and sixth-ranked Cleveland Fusion. Led by quarterback Allison Cahill, the Renegades’ aerial offense averages 187.2 yards per game, good for fifth in the league. Cahill ranks #10 in passing yardage and wide receiver Adrienne Smith ranks #10 in receiving yardage despite an abridged six-game schedule. Boston scores an average of 33.2 points per game while allowing 26.4 points per game on defense. According to MasseyRatings.com, the Renegades had the toughest schedule in the WFA this season.

If the Renegades win, they will host a conference semifinal match on July 11 against the winner of a quarterfinal matchup between Cleveland and Chicago.
