Charlene Casey (2016)

Originally a member of the 2002 Massachusetts Mutiny of the National Women’s Football Association, Charlene Casey is one of the sport’s most experienced players ever.  At times she competed in both spring and fall football leagues; Casey played in a total of 22 seasons of football.

She was twice named Team Captain and Defensive Player of the Year for the New England Intensity. She was also awarded the New England Intensity Coach’s Award in 2013. As a member of the Intensity, Casey earned IWFL All-Star recognition in 2012 and 2013. She is a member of the New England Intensity Hall of Fame.

In 2014, Casey was named a WFA All-American, earned team recognition as the Boston Militia Defensive Player of the Year. She won a national championship title that year.

Casey became a member of Boston Women’s Football’s 100 Club in a 21-12 win over the Philadelphia Phantomz in 2018, a year in which she also won her second league title, this time as a Renegade.

Charlene’s enduring desire to play football was one of the focal points in the 2020 documentary film, Born to Play.

Prior to football, Casey was a volleyball and basketball player at Bridgewater State College, where she also played rugby. She is from Lawrence, Mass.
