Sarah Viola (2015)

Sarah Viola is a pioneer of women’s football in Europe and her native Belgium.

In 2007, Sarah made history by becoming the first Belgian girl to play in a tackle football program. Then she became the first woman to play tackle football in the men’s Belgium Football League as a member of the Brussels Tigers in 2014.

Viola represented Belgium in the USA Football 2015 Women’s World Football Games in Tampa, Florida. Later that year, she became an original Boston Renegade and our team’s first European player.

After returning from the U.S., Viola joined the Molosses d’Asnières women’s team in France, with whom she has won four French national titles. In 2016, Sarah became a coach/staff member of the Youth Tackle Development Program (YTDP) in the Belgian American Football League.

She has also played for the Aachen Vampires women’s team in the AFVD league of Germany. She also played on an international traveling team, the Europe Warriors. All the while, Sarah continued playing for the Brussels Tigers men’s team. It was announced in 2022 that the Brussels Tigers will finally form a women’s team.
